The trumpet part (a most difficult one) was brilliantly performed by a young musician Kyrill Soldatov. While still being a student he was offered the first trumpet chair by Vladimir Spivakov. Despite Soldatov’s young age, the artistic fate has already brought us together. He was the first to play my “Concerto Parlando”, a double concerto for violin and trumpet with strings, in Russia. His sound palette encompasses a wide range of colors and hues. His phrasing is impeccable. Kyrill performed without a slightest change everything I noted in the score.

Who is this, being seized by the camera at the live broadcast of Gershwin Gala – the recent opening of the “Spivakov Inviting…” fest? And just about more often than Spivakov himself? Though palyng in the last row stand? It’s true, the figure is very attractive: orchestra’s solo performer, leader of the trumpet group Kirill Soldatov — not yet 25 years old.

Schostakowitsch schuf mit seinem Konzert ein ungeheuerliches Stück (dieser Eindruck wurde noch mehr durch die wundervolle Spielart des Trompetenspielers Kirill Soldatow verstärkt). Kern ritt dieses Ungeheuer von Anfang bis zu Ende als wäre es ein wildes Pferd gewesen, über welches sie die ganze Zeit Kontrolle behalten hätte.

Olga Kern coped with both concerts with remarked vividness, which was especially appropriate in daring Shostacovich’s music (together with a splendid trumpet-player Kirill Soldatov).
