An extract from “Autobiographical Notes”
The trumpet part (a most difficult one) was brilliantly performed by a young musician Kyrill Soldatov. While still being a student he was offered the first trumpet chair by Vladimir Spivakov. Despite Soldatov’s young age, the artistic fate has already brought us together. He was the first to play my “Concerto Parlando”, a double concerto for violin and trumpet with strings, in Russia. His sound palette encompasses a wide range of colors and hues. His phrasing is impeccable. Kyrill performed without a slightest change everything I noted in the score. Nothing was either facilitated or simplified. His selection of various mufflers was excellent, and he is due the credit that the sound produced by just three musicians created the effect of a complete symphonic orchestra present in the hall.
